The Twilight Zone

My favorite television show of all time is undoubtably The Twilight Zone. Rod Serling is a creative genius. The sheer output from this man’s mind is just amazing. His screenplays all start with a brilliant kernel of an idea, into which he infuses an atmosphere of anxiety and dread, finished off with a twisted ending that really makes you think long after the program is over.

Some of my favorite episodes are:

“To Serve Man” Helpful aliens visit our planet, but do they have a nefarious purpose?

“Where is Everybody?” A town where evidence of life is around every corner, but no one can be found.

“The Monsters are due on Maple Street” Aliens start really messing with the minds of people in a small town.

“Miniature” A man falls in love with a figurine from a dollhouse.

If you haven’t really seen to much of this amazing show, definitely start with the first season because as time went on Rod Serling didn’t write as many of the episodes. Serling is totally my hero…I gotta get inspired to write regularly again.

I’m with you, Jen. Love Serling. Along with the two other biggest contibuting writers, Beaumont and Matheson, Serling wasn’t just ahead of his time — he defined whole genres of movies and TV shows. Can’t imagine stuff like The X-Files, Millenium, Lost, Twin Peaks happening w/out the T Zone.
